It will be installed in the Oriental region

Project : A project to set up a mussel farm is being studied by the maritime fishing department. This initiative should benefit young entrepreneurs and will take place in the Oriental region, specifically in Ras El Ma.

Morocco gives pride of place to the maritime fishing sector. Several initiatives have been carried out to strengthen the country’s potential in this sector and encourage youth entrepreneurship in this activity. In this sense, support for the development of mussel culture is an integral part of the proposed tracks. Thus, the maritime fishing department is working on the realization of an innovative mussel farming project in the Oriental region. This is a mussel farm which will have 8 lines of 300 meters each at the level of Ras El Mas. This initiative, which will benefit young entrepreneurs, is part of the Halieutis strategy.

“Aquaculture in Morocco has been identified by the Halieutis strategy as a lever for the development of the fisheries sector in its axis of sustainability. In this sense, the studies of aquaculture development plans carried out by the National Agency for the Development of Aquaculture at the level of the different regions have made it possible to highlight the natural potential of Morocco in terms of aquaculture, in particular mussel farming. to which 3,000 ha have been reserved”, explains the maritime fisheries department. And to specify that: “The fishing agreement between Morocco and the European Union which supports the Moroccan state’s policy in terms of sustainable fishing and good governance of the oceans has made it possible to establish the sectoral support program which aims to create wealth and employment in coastal areas. To succeed in this challenge, the Moroccan government intends to integrate aquaculture into the economic and social fabric of these different maritime regions as an activity in its own right with the development of all links in the fisheries value chain”. In this scheme, artisanal fishermen’s cooperatives and young entrepreneurs benefit from financial and technical support for the initiation of their aquaculture farm projects in these different regions.

It should be noted that the mussel sector designed for the beneficiary project is a sector 300m long each (200m useful) submerged at (-3m) above sea level at high tide. In this sense, these lines will be installed on the width of the plot (300m).
It must be said that several studies have been conducted in particular by the National Aquaculture Development Agency (ANDA) for the development of this activity in Morocco, thus revealing the natural and climatic potential favorable for the expansion of this culture.
