In a move that reflects the stepping down of Russian Roman Abramovich from the reins of power at English club Chelsea, the “Blues” issued a statement to affirm Ukraine’s support in the Russian crisis.
Abramovich announced on Saturday evening that he will step down as president of Chelsea FC, in light of pressures due to the Russian-Ukrainian crisis. (See for more details)
Abramovich decided to hand over the management of the “Blues” to the trustees of the Chelsea Charity Foundation, in order to oversee the club’s sponsorship.

Chelsea has come under the pressure of criticism in recent days, given the nationality of its owner, and the failure to issue a statement condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Chelsea’s statement on Sunday read: “The situation in Ukraine is appalling and devastating. Chelsea sympathize with everyone in Ukraine. Everyone at the club is praying for peace.”
Chelsea’s support comes in light of the continuous messages of support that appeared in the English Premier League to sympathize with Ukraine, the most prominent of which was what happened before the match between Everton and Manchester City.
City has Ukrainian player Oleksandr Zinchenko in its ranks, while his compatriot Vitaly Mikolenko is in the ranks of Everton, and the two hugged warmly and broke down in tears before the start of the match.
