A motocross competition bringing together amateur veterans was bereaved on Saturday in Belmont-sur-Yverdon. Another separate accident resulted in a serious injury on the same runway.
Black day Saturday for motocross fans gathered in Belmont-sur-Yverdon (VD) for the first events of the Angora championship season. Around 5:30 p.m., two accidents occurred in quick succession during a race in the MX3 category, reserved for veterans. One of the victims, a 61-year-old Bernese, died in hospital. The other victim, a 47-year-old Portuguese man living in the canton of Neuchâtel, is seriously injured, the Vaud cantonal police said on Sunday.
Call for witnesses
Emergency services were quickly alerted. Two Rega helicopters were called to the scene. An investigation has been opened to try to understand the circumstances of the accident. Police have appealed for witnesses.
