A mother who was imprisoned for killing her five children was finally euthanized

Euthanasia has been a hotly debated topic in recent years. While one group argues that euthanasia should be allowed as an escape from a painful life for those suffering from incurable physical and mental illnesses, the other group argues that euthanasia is a form of murder and is not allowed.

Currently, euthanasia is legally supported in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, and Britain, as well as in some US states. Now news is coming out of Belgium about an unusual euthanasia.

The news is that the woman who was imprisoned for a long time for killing her five children has now died by euthanasia. In 2007, the incident related to the rarest of rare cases took place. A woman named Genevieve Lermite killed her five children by slitting their throats while her husband was away. Later, they also tried to commit suicide by stabbing themselves with a knife. But as the death dragged on, they reported the matter to the police. With this, the police arrived and admitted them to the hospital and saved their lives.

Their lawyer informs that severe mental problems led Genevieve to kill her own children. But the court did not take the argument at face value. The court sentenced Genevieve to life imprisonment.

Genevieve, who was in jail since 2008, was transferred to a mental health center in 2019. Meanwhile, they filed a case against the doctor who treated them in 2010 but failed in that case. They demanded that legal action should be taken against the doctor because of the fact that he did not get effective treatment and that he had come to the point of killing his children. But the case was dismissed in court.

By 2019, when her mental problems increased, she was transferred to the hospital. It is after this that they come to the idea of euthanasia. The lawyer informs that on the request of Genevieve, the children were euthanized on February 28, the sixteenth anniversary of the murder. However, euthanasia, which is rare, gets a lot of attention. When mental health problems lead individuals to commit crimes, the law should intervene and Genevieve’s life should be used as an example.
