A mosquito control operation in the 13th, a first in the capital

A vast mosquito control operation will take place in Paris tonight, according to the Ile-de-France Regional Health Agency (ARS) contacted by 20 Minutes, confirming information from RTL radio. This is a first in the capital, following a case of imported dengue fever linked to the tiger mosquito.

The operation, which should begin this Wednesday, August 30 in the evening in the 13th arrondissement, consists of spraying insecticide in an area 150 meters in diameter around the infested place.

Other departments of Ile-de-France concerned

According to information from RTL, another mosquito control operation will take place Thursday evening in Colombes, in the Hauts-de-Seine. In this same department, the mayor of Châtillon seized the ARS. In Seine-et-Marne, two municipalities are classified as colonized by the species, Brie-Comte-Robert and Champagne-sur-Seine, and 13 cases of dengue have been reported in the department, according to The Republic of Seine-et-Marne.

The Aedes albopictus mosquito, otherwise known as the tiger mosquito and implanted in metropolitan France since 2004, has continued to spread over the territory. To limit the risk of transmission of the arboviruses that it can propagate (dengue, chikungunya and Zika), surveillance of cases, imported and indigenous, has been in place since 2006.

Despite surveillance, the epidemiological situation with regard to dengue in metropolitan France was “exceptional in 2022”, according to Public Health France.
