A mortifying defeat for Xherdan Shaqiri and the Fire

Xherdan Shaqiri and Chicago conceded the tenth defeat of a season that promises to be cataclysmic. The Fire lost at home 3-2 to Columbus following leading 2-0.

In front of 15,157 spectators, a double from Haitian Derrick Etienne (63rd and 75th) and a success from Watford defector Cucho Hernandez (83rd) allowed Columbus to continue a virtuous series with a sixth game in a row without defeat. For its part, the Fire, beaten last week in San Jose, finds itself in the unenviable situation of ‘red lantern’ of the Eastern Conference.

Replaced in the 80th minute, Xherdan Shaqiri was not involved in the two successes of his team in the first period by Rafael Czichos (29th) and Christopher Mueller (41st). On Wednesday, the Fire will host the Toronto of former United States coach Bob Bradley on behalf of the 20th day.
