The family of the stillborn child killed in Amusement park in Pefkohori, Halkidiki last August, he erected a small chapel and a marble pillar on which is engraved the photograph of their child.
It was August 19, 2024, when 19-year-old Yiannis Kampailis, who was watching in Pefkohori with his mother and his other two brothers, during a walk decided with one of his brothers to join the “Crazy dance” game.
That ride was to be fatal as the particular toy was completely inappropriate, as the base of the seat broke and the 19-year-old found himself on the floor resulting in his tragic death in front of the eyes of his mother and siblings.
Speaking to thestival.gr the father of the 19-year-old, Giorgos Kampailis, said that he placed the chapel and the column in his child’s memory. In fact, as written under the photo, “he was murdered in his joy”.
The monument with the chapel was placed a few days ago on the pedestrian street directly opposite the amusement park. “No one has forgotten my child. Every day more than 50 people pass by the spot and light a candle for him”, said Mr. Giorgos Kampailis to thestival.gr and added that both he and his family since the moment Giannis disappeared are “in a miserable state and this is how we will remain.”
“Tomorrow, after a second deadline, the two lady deputy mayors of the Municipality of Kassandra will testify after being summoned by the prosecutor. The pace of justice in the current phase is very good” he said adding that he has confidence in the Justice that those involved in the case will be held accountable.
I have confidence in Justice. Mrs. Anakritria has greatly expanded the indictment and has turned the indictment into a serial manslaughter, while also implicating three other people. The prosecutor has called too many people for explanations”, emphasized Mr. Kampailis.
The case brought to light the dangerous operation of both the amusement park in question, which had been operating for years without a license and certification of the suitability of the games, while the specific game, according to the opinion of the expert, had significant deficiencies, construction errors, corrosion and fragmentation of beams and supports, making the totally unfit for use.
Further, it was found that there was no speed ‘cutter’ while rotting girders and rusted installations were found. The accident happened when the corroded and old metal base of the toy seat broke.
The game has no identity, no identification number and was self-made, while many additions of parts were found.
