a memorandum of understanding between Algeria and Djibouti

ALGIERS- A memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the various fields of energy and mines was signed Monday in Algiers by Algeria and Djibouti.

The memorandum was signed by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, and the Minister of Energy in charge of natural resources of the Republic of Djibouti, Yonis Ali Guedi, in the presence of the CEOs of the Sonatrach groups, Sonelgaz, Manadjim El Djazaïr (Manal), and Asmidal, the president of the Electricity and Gas Regulatory Commission (CREG), the president of the Hydrocarbons Regulatory Authority (ARH) and the president of the Agency for the development of hydrocarbon resources (ALNAFT).

Energy cooperation activities between the two countries relate to the areas of exchange of information, technological knowledge and experience in research and the intensification of the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons, natural gas and mining, as well as technical assistance to conduct studies, develop and implement technical projects in the fields of hydrocarbons, natural gas, electricity and mining, including the transfer of technologies related to these projects .

This bilateral cooperation also includes services related to the hydrocarbon sector, including exploration, production, refining, supply, storage and distribution of petroleum products.

The agreement also includes the establishment of cooperation between Sonatrach and the International Hydrocarbons Company of Djibouti, the study of cooperation opportunities in the field of production, transport and distribution of electricity and the supply of spare parts for power and gas plants, in addition to the exchange of experience in the field of geological and mining research between the research centers of the two countries.

It was also agreed, under the memorandum, to provide analytical services in the laboratories of the National Geological Research Office (ORGM), and to establish a commercial relationship within the framework of the acquisition by Djibouti of mining products from Algeria, in addition to the training of technicians and professionals in all trades related to the hydrocarbons, natural gas, electricity and mining sectors.
