A large health center should be created by 2031-2032 to the west of Nice, in the eco-Valley. A huge project for the city in which the University Hospital, the Antoine-Lacassagne Center and the Lenval Foundation are involved.

This future establishment would be built on the site of the Nicéa residence in Adoma (formerly Sonacotra), on the Var plain, for a total budget of 500 to 600 million euros. Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice and president of the supervisory board of the CHU, reveals the contours of this file.

“These establishments are no longer suitable”

“This health center will bring together the activities of the Archet sites (in particular to bring together the activities of the woman-mother-child center associating the Lenval Foundation), oncology carried out at the Lacassagne Center avenue de Valombrose but also geriatrics at the Cimiez hospital These establishments are no longer adapted, no longer sized to take care of patients when we know the demographic evolution, the aging of the population and therefore the growing needs. In addition, the seismicity of Archet is far from be exemplary, Cimiez needs new impetus, Lacassagne is cramped…”, says Christian Estrosi.

The call for tenders in January 2024

The news has the effect of a bombshell, even though the file has been in the works for more than a decade. “I’ve been working on it since 2008. But it took time for each party to agree, it’s doneunderlines the mayor of Nice. We are in the process of building a tripartite partnership agreement which will guarantee respect for each entity’s specificity. The specifications will be finalized by the end of the year to be able to launch, from January 2024, the call for tenders for project management assistance.”

On the site of the ex-Sonacotra

The site, for its part, has already been identified. “This is the one on which the Nicéa residence is located, owned by Côte d’Azur Habitat and managed by the social landlord Adoma. The land owner is the city of Nice. It is suitable because its 4 hectares make it possible to build the establishment of 125,000m².”

The West was not chosen at random: “It was necessary to progress on the different urban planning balances. This area is very well served and is part of the overall mobility plan voted in 2008. L’Archet, on the hills, is not very convenient. Favor the east-west axis between this pole and Pasteur 2 will make travel easier.”

As for the calendar, Christian Estrosi is moving forward “delivery for 2031-2032” and promises to soon give other details, in particular concerning the rehousing of Adoma tenants.
