A man wanted for the PDVSA-Cripto corruption plot is arrested in Argentina

The Argentine Federal Police arrested in the province of Entre Ríos, an Argentine citizen with an international arrest warrant, who was required by the Venezuelan justice system for the crime of “Illicit Trafficking of strategic material, Money Laundering and Aggravated Smuggling” linked to the corruption plot in the state-owned Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA).

«The arrested person would be the operator and front man of another fugitive, of Italian nationality, who would presumably be the main member of the criminal structure.», says the press release published by the Argentine Ministry of Security.

«It is suspected that the Argentine created companies in multiple jurisdictions, in several of which he appears as owner, director and treasurer, to carry out trading activities, chartering, purchasing tankers and false identifications, with the aim of carrying out cargo thefts. of crude oil and subsequent fraudulent marketing,” they add.

The detainee is part of a corruption network that would involve senior officials of the Nicolás Maduro regime, including Tarek El Aissami, who last week celebrated one year missing since he left the presidency of PDVSA.

The Interpol National Central Office in Caracas had issued a red alert in the search for several people linked to a corruption scheme in the marketing of Venezuelan crude oil. Among them is the Argentine detained by the PFA, accused in the case “PDVSA-Crypto”, for which the Venezuelan Public Ministry also requested the arrest of four other international operators.

The detainee, 38 years old, remained at the disposal of the Federal Court of First Instance of Concordia, awaiting his extradition process.
