Treasure hunting may be everyone’s dream but who would have thought that it could be possible with a metal detector.
But it happened in the European country of Norway, where a person found a 1500 year old treasure through a metal detector. Yes indeed, 51-year-old Erland Bohr found 9 bangles, 3 rings and 10 gold beads through a metal detector.
Interestingly, he is not a treasure seeker but was advised by the doctor to spend more time outside the four walls instead of sitting in a chair. So he took up the hobby of looking for things with a metal detector to get out and about.
Rennesoey Island resident Erland Bor uses a metal detector during a walk on the island in August 2023.
According to the statement issued by the Archaeological Museum of the University of Stavanger, during this walk, they first discovered some garbage, but then they found a treasure, the total weight of which was a little more than 100 grams.
Under Norwegian law, artifacts from before 1537 and coins from before 1650 are state property.
Professor Håkon Reiersen of the museum said the gold bracelets probably date back to the 500s, when Norway was undergoing mass migration. They said that the jhumkas and gold beads were probably part of a larger necklace worn by a powerful person of the time.
He added that such a discovery had not been made in Norway since the 19th century. The treasure is now being planned to be shown to the public through an exhibition at the museum.
