A man broke into his ex-girlfriend’s house in Merksplas on Saturday morning. “He killed his 21-year-old son and then took the other people present hostage,” said spokesman for the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office Kristof Aerts. Around 11:40 a.m., he finally surrendered to the police.
Law enforcement was alerted around 5:45 a.m. The daughter of the ex-partner and her new companion were also present in the house. The suspect attacked them, presumably with a knife. The son did not survive the attack. Her sister, her mother and the boyfriend were injured.
The daughter and the mother’s companion managed to escape. The suspect then took refuge in the house with his ex-partner. The police and special units of the Federal Police arrived at the scene. “After hours of negotiations, the suspect came out and was able to be brought under control,” explains Kristof Aerts. “We requested an investigating judge for assassination, attempted assassination and unlawful deprivation of liberty. The suspect, a 40-year-old, will be presented to him on Sunday. »
