A man in his 20s who installed a camera in a public bathroom and illegally filmed an unspecified number of people was sent to the prosecution.

The Seoul Eunpyeong Police Station announced on the 9th that it had arrested and sent a man in his 20s for illegally filming around 200 people.

According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of illegally filming users with micro-cameras installed in 11 places around the metropolitan area from July to October, including restrooms, locker rooms at sports facilities, cafes, and restaurants.

After receiving a report that a camera appeared to be installed in the bathroom in September, the police were dispatched to the scene, found the camera, and launched an investigation. The police, who identified Mr. A as a suspect through interrogation and analysis of nearby CCTVs, arrested him last October following tracking them down.

The police found and confiscated several miniature cameras in the shape of household items such as car keys and lighters at Mr. A’s home. They also found a woman’s wig that Mr. A used to avoid suspicion around her when she went to the women’s bathroom.

A total of 355 illegally filmed footage obtained by the police at Mr. A’s house, and only regarding 200 confirmed victims have been identified so far. However, it was found that he did not distribute illegally filmed material.
