The Swiss seem rather skeptical of the idea of selling alcohol at Migros. According to a Tamedia poll published on Monday, they are 58% to be clearly or rather once morest, and 38% for. The share of undecided is 4%.
The elderly are particularly opposed to change: among those over 65, the ‘no’ vote reaches 67%. In the age group of 50 to 64 years, a majority of 61% is once morest it, a share which is reduced to 55% for people aged 35 to 49 years. For young people aged 18 to 34, opinions are divided: 48% are for and 45% are once morest the sale of alcohol at Migros.
The approximately 2.3 million members of the ten regional Migros cooperatives can vote until June 4 on this measure. According to the retailer’s website, they will receive the documents in early May. From May 16, it will also be possible to vote in Migros stores.
Two-thirds majority required
The counting of the votes will take place from June 7 and Migros indicates that the results will probably be published in mid-June. The ban on the sale of alcohol at Migros, in force for more than a hundred years, will only be lifted if a two-thirds majority emerges in its favour.
Conducted on April 19 and 20, the poll was carried out as part of the second opinion poll for the federal votes on May 15. A total of 9673 people participated in the online survey. The statistical margin of error is +/-1.7 percentage points.
