A Lithuanian startup has created an app that solves the problems of loneliness | Business

According to psychologist and psychotherapist Eglė Kijevič, by spending a lot of time every day on social networks and quick virtual dating apps, people get used to communicating live, asking questions, maintaining a conversation, and continuing live communication.

“Communications or even close relationships formed in this way are not taken seriously, as they are associated with light flirting in boredom, and potential partners are judged only by physical appearance. Relationships constructed in this way lose their value base, it seems that people get used to cherishing, protecting and listening to each other”, the specialist lamented.

According to the psychologist, this promotes a culture of quick consumption, when we choose a partner as a commodity, and this only makes people feel even more lonely.

A circle of harmful experiences

The interlocutor warned that virtual speed dating apps can create many misleading illusions, due to which there is a risk of getting involved in harmful relationships, not recognizing inappropriate behavior in time.

“A vicious circle is formed. Due to the algorithms of the dating apps, people who remain undervalued or even rejected start to distrust themselves and others even more, and as a result, even more communication problems arise and there is a threat of “hitting” on narcissists looking for victims,” said E. Kijevič.

According to the psychologist, in order to change the situation, especially the representatives of the young generation should not be afraid to change their dating model – live communication, to be more boldly involved in various social activities and communities.

A Lithuanian startup has created an alternative

Eduard Titov, the founder of the Lithuanian startup “Joiner”, claims that he himself was disappointed with dating apps, and the idea that arose from that has already turned into a popular app, the number of users of which is constantly growing.

“The so-called “quick-use” dating apps, where you choose a partner by swiping to one side or the other, profit from constant use. Their creators are not interested in helping you find a long-term, real connection. Algorithms are designed in such a way that you constantly look for another option – the illusion is created that there is always a better candidate on the horizon”, explains E. Titov, who started looking for innovative solutions himself.

The development of the app “Joiner” was soon started, now conjuring and allowing sharing of favorite activities not only for single people, but also for people seeking to discover friends or like-minded people.

According to the founder, the project aims to replace virtual communication with live, face-to-face communication and helps to spend quality time together, living “here and now”.

Increases the involvement of migrants

According to Jūratė Plungytė, co-owner of the “Joiner” app, the project is not aimed at lovers of quick dating, but at members who long for a real connection and time together with the company. Joiner builds community and solves loneliness.

“The app is not intended for dating, but by connecting during real meetings, people can find not only friends, but also a significant other.” Community members are happy to be able to organize events themselves, to join them, to find company for everything – from ceramics classes to rave parties,” said J. Plungytė.

Unexpectedly, the app also became popular among another group of people looking for like-minded people – foreigners who have arrived in a new country. Whether they are moving for a long time or in the country only for a short time, they join groups and make friends. It helps to actively integrate into the new environment, cultural life and not to be left behind. According to the co-owner J. Plungytė, immigrants especially fell in love with the app, because they have the opportunity to integrate into social groups of people much faster, they have created their own circle and community, where they are warmly welcomed.

The “Joiner” application has already been tested and is actively used by several thousand users in Lithuania, and the number of the community is growing every day.
