An alleged Lithuanian drug trafficker linked to the ‘Balkan cartel’ was captured at the El Dorado airport in Bogotá by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Interpol (Dijín) and authorities of the Dominican Republic.

The subject was identified as Virginijus Labutis, who was wanted by the Lithuanian justice system for cocaine trafficking from South America to Europe.

The capture was carried out thanks to a red notice issued by Interpol, which allowed the identification and detention of the suspect for extradition purposes.

According to authorities, Labutis had arrived in Bogotá from Santo Domingo and had reservations for flights to Medellín and Guayaquil, indicating that he planned to evade authorities.

The Lithuanian citizen is considered a prominent member of the ‘Balkan cartel’, an organization that has gained notoriety for its participation in the trafficking of cocaine and other narcotics to Europe, using the port of Rotterdam as a key point. In addition, he is involved in crimes such as money laundering and corruption.

After his capture, the Lithuanian was placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office, which, together with Migration Colombia, coordinated his expulsion to Lithuania in the early hours of Saturday.
