In the Strobler village of Weißenbach, a forest fire broke out in the breast wall on Wednesday followingnoon, which was limited to just a few square meters but was difficult to fight. A Red Cross employee saw the smoke from the rescue station and informed the emergency services.
The Strobl and Koppl fire brigades and the “Libelle” police helicopter took part in the operation with forest fire equipment. Due to the impassable and difficult to access source of the fire, the firefighting was carried out from the police helicopter. The fire brigade forces ensured the extinguishing water supply. The fire was brought under control following regarding an hour and further spread was prevented.
A total of around 50 firefighters, three paramedics, the dragonfly with three police officers, the district fire investigator and three other police forces were on duty. According to initial findings, a lightning strike in the morning may have been responsible for the outbreak of the fire.
