A leisure park is expected to be built next year in Giraite, Kaunas district Business

“Užliediai borough is highly urbanized, more than 10,000 people already live there. residents, young families are being formed here, but there is a lack of green spaces”, Kaunas district municipality said in a comment to BNS.

Edita Gedgaudė, head of the Giraitė community, told BNS that people really miss such a park, they have no place to spend their free time.

“Why is that park needed, first of all – every settlement must have public spaces where children can be.” For children’s employment. Where to go for a walk, exercise, spend your free time. There is a human need to spend free time at home,” she told BNS.

“If you were to come to the place to play basketball, there isn’t even such a place in Giraite right now,” added E. Gedgaudė.

According to her, the new park will have everything that was missing: a place for events, skateboarding, football, basketball courts, and a children’s playground.

“The basketball court will be skate (skateboard – BNS) park, there will be mini-football, a place for events, because we really need it, because we also have traditional events, the lighting of the Christmas tree. (…) Actually now (when we hold events – BNS), we migrate across places, last year we held (an event – BNS) on a private plot. Such as orphans, without a place,” said E. Gedgaudė.

The head of the community added that the park was long overdue – the land transfer process lasted more than four years.

“It’s not so much that it’s hard, it’s just that the pick-up process took a while.” We went, we appealed to the municipality that we want such a park. (…) Those processes took 4.5 years, until the negotiations, until the inventory, said E. Gedgaudė.

“Kaunas district municipality, together with the community, has been developing the idea of ​​a park for a long time, but it took time to find the plot, and then the procedure of taking it over from the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, the project had to be adjusted due to various circumstances,” the municipality told BNS.

The contract with the contractor is expected to be signed in the second quarter of this year, and the works should be completed within 12 months.
