Microsoft’s next Surface Laptop might take advantage of the best of AMD and Intel.
Microsoft’s Surface devices are nice products, but they’re often technologically dated. The latest is a good illustration of this: the flagship Surface Laptop Studio is due out soon in France with an 11th generation processor as Intel reinvents itself with a 12th generation hybrid architecture.
According to a new leak, this shouldn’t happen with the Surface Laptop 5.
120Hz screen, Ryzen 6000 and Intel 12
The website WindowsPrime was able to get his hands on what looks like an official spec sheet from Microsoft. We do not know the history of this site which only presents the screenshot of the data sheet. Difficult to give him any credibility at the moment. So you have to take it all with a grain of salt.
The list of features is complete, the Surface Laptop 5 would be offered in two screen sizes: 13.5 and 15 inches. The dimensions would be similar to the Surface Laptop 4, but with a slightly thicker chassis. The PixelSense 3:2 touch screen would once once more be part of the game, but with a Dolby Vision compatible revision and offering a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The battery of the device would also have been revised upwards: 58 Wh once morest 47.4 previously.
The most important is obviously at the level of the promised performance. The technical sheet promises the choice that the Surface Laptop 5 13.5 will integrate an Intel Core i5-1240P, i7-1280P processor or an AMD Ryzen 5 6680U processor in the Surface Edition version (6 graphics cores). As a reminder, Microsoft had already partnered with AMD for previous generations of Surface Laptop to slightly modify the characteristics of Ryzen. This was a new partnership with AMD which is already working with Microsoft on the design of Xbox consoles.
The 15-inch version of the Laptop might integrate a more muscular configuration: Intel Corie i7-1280P or AMD Ryzen 7 6980U (8 graphics cores). The processor would be supported by 8 to 32 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 256 GB to 1 TB of SSD storage. The latter would always be easily replaceable by the user.
Among the latest details, we can note Windows Hello by facial recognition, Bluetooth 5.1 with Wi-Fi 6 and the appearance of two USB 4.0/Thunderbolt 4 ports on the machine in addition to Surface Connect, the jack port and a classic USB-A port.
All this seems very credible, but remember that we do not know the exact origin or reliability of this source. It also does not present the price and release date of this Surface Laptop 5. With such a precise technical sheet, however, we can imagine an imminent presentation.
