The space rock named MK 2024 (meteor) has passed by a distance of 295 thousand km from our earth today. It is 77% of the distance between the Earth and the Moon. This meteor passing so close to Earth is one of the few brightest celestial bodies visible from Earth in recent years.
The passage of MK 2024 poses no threat to Earth. If one has the right equipment, one can watch this meteorite pass by with the right timing. The meteorite, measuring 120 to 260 feet in size, was discovered two weeks ago by an observatory in South Africa.
David Francia, a meteorologist at the Center for Near-Earth Objects Studies of the American space agency NASA, says that small fragments of the meteorite continue to pass close to the Earth, but the Earth of such a large meteorite. Approximately every twenty-five years passes.
A 7,595-foot meteor passed close to Earth on Thursday, but it was too far to be seen without professional binoculars.
