A penchant for early ’90s death metal extremes augmented with more modern mayhem brought together Nathe Sinfield (Lost Outrider) and Sam Strachan (Raised By Owls). The songwriting sessions in 2020 became a way out of an uncertain reality, the project gradually grew into a full-fledged band, and everything was self-produced. As Outergods the quintet from British Nottingham is now under contract with Prosthetic and presents the loud, overwhelming „A Kingdom Built Upon The Wreckage Of Heaven“.

“Tangled In The Cogs Of The Nightmare Machine” not only has a grandiose title, but also sums up the madness of the British. The lengthened gallop is deceptive, because behind it is raging rage, fueled by well-dosed steel edges. Slobbering vocals, high tempo, plus noisy Blackened undertones that occasionally dock on to Deathgrind – the nerves disintegrate all by themselves, especially when delicate electronic undertones are involved. Instead of synthesizers, it uses disturbing signals that are seamlessly embedded in the action and let it escalate even more, not to mention the angry finale.

“Catacombs Of Madness” can probably be used as an alternative title for this debut. Here, too, some electronics come through, also here they skilfully intensify the already manic atmosphere and lead to a skilful overstimulation of all the senses. Meanwhile, Outergods ride relentless attacks, only in the second half they vary the tempo and hint at something like groove. “Into The Howling Void” is also strong, following an extended intro it only feigns a frontal attack. Behind it lurks tasteful sluggishness. One would almost like to believe in deep black melody, but in the end this only serves to dissect the last remnants.

Excessive obnoxiousness befits the gentlemen of the East Midlands. “A Kingdom Built Upon The Wreckage Of Heaven” doesn’t make any false promises, it just dismantles everything that doesn’t take shelter with Drei in the bunker. Death Metal serves as a guide for rough extremes, which skilfully escalate through deliberately used synthetics. What Outergods pull off here, wears down and destroys. And the inside eats itself up. A follow-up can be eagerly awaited.
