Books – Muhammad Sami:
Grape prices witnessed a sharp rise in the markets during the first week of May, as prices per kilo in wholesale markets ranged from 35 to 40 pounds per kilo, while the price ranged from 45 to 55 pounds per kilo in some retail markets.
Muhammad Nafeh, head of the Vegetable Dealers Association in the October Wholesale Market, said that the increase in the price of grapes is very natural, but the crop offered in the market is the beginning of the season, and this happens every year and with any crop, adding that prices will gradually decrease with the onset of the peak season, which begins in June, July and August, and prices will reach To normal rates between 10 and 15 pounds per kilo.
Hatem Al-Najeeb, head of the Vegetable Merchants Association in the Obour Market, pointed out that the matter is not limited to grapes only, but that all fruits in Al-Bashir have very high prices, due to the lack of supply and it happens with apricots, watermelons, cantaloupes and mangoes, stressing that the prices of vegetables and fruits are subject to supply and demand, as the quantities offered If it is less than what is required, prices will rise dramatically, as happens in the tomato loop, but if the supply is in excess of the demand, then the prices will gradually decrease.
Al-Najeeb confirmed that the prices of vegetables and fruits were not affected by the increase in diesel prices, as the percentage of the increase in relation to the tonnage is very small and will not cause a price hike.
