A journey to the year 1782

The Heidelberger Sinfoniker will open their 2022-2023 season with the second edition of the “Explore Haydn” festival:
Explore = explore, discover, explore, as a term it belongs in the cultural world anyway. “Explore” has now become the motto of the current situation – like never before, cultural workers are encouraged to explore new event formats. With the “Explore Haydn” festival, the Heidelberger Sinfoniker, a freelance orchestra from the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region that has distinguished itself in particular with its recordings of Joseph Haydn’s symphonies, is bringing artists from different disciplines together for the second year in a row.

The voyage of discovery takes the Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra and its artistic director Johannes Klumpp this time to the year 1782, when the 50-year-old Haydn composed his Symphonies Nos. 76-78 at the very time when he met Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. But how was the year 1782? In Austria, serfdom is abolished, Emperor Joseph II issues the Tolerance Patent for the Jews within the framework of Josephinism, and the premiere of Friedrich Schiller’s drama “Die Räuber” in the National Theater in Mannheim causes a great stir, which was the highlight of the epoch of the “Sturm und Drang It is true that Mozart composed his popular opera Die Entführung aus dem Seraglio… Together with regional actors from music, literature, science, dance and the DJ scene, the Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra embarks on a journey to the year 1782.

More exciting concerts await you in the 2022-2023 season: in November, the Heidelberger Sinfoniker invite the pianist Ragna Schirmer, and we are also looking forward to our traditional festive New Year’s concerts!
