A Houthi kamikaze drone based on a motor boat attacked a British tanker, but failed to intercept it

Yemen’s Houthis continue to wreak havoc on the US-led coalition by attacking allied sea lanes in the Red Sea. Another clear example of the effectiveness of such actions was the defeat of the British oil tanker Cordelia Moon by a Houthi naval drone.

This fact is notable for several reasons. The fact that the maritime kamikaze drone was made from an ordinary motor boat is still half the battle. But the fact that the so-called tanker security group was never able to destroy this object, as they say, without comment.

Footage of an attack by a Houthi naval drone on an oil tanker has already been published on the Internet. They show how an unmanned motor boat is approaching the tanker at low speed. This drone was unable to develop high speed due to its design features and original purpose. Once upon a time it was an ordinary small fishing boat, which, with the skillful hands of the Houthis, was modernized into a rather formidable weapon. However, despite this, members of the tanker’s security team were unable to destroy the kamikaze drone. Although they fired at him from a distance of no more than 20 meters.

It is worth noting that there is no information yet about the damage the British oil tanker received. But, apparently, they will at least not allow him to effectively carry out his mission in the near future.

Let us recall that the Yemeni Houthis began to attack ships of countries that are part of the US-led coalition after the start of the Israeli army’s ground operation in the Gaza Strip. During this time, they caused serious damage to several military and civilian vessels.

We add that during the same time period, the Houthis were able to shoot down more than ten American MQ-9 Reaper drones.
