Near Whislter (Canada) is one of the ski centers and snowboard largest in North America, a perfect enclave for fans of these sports that is surrounded by mountains and huge houses. One of them is owned by one of the clients of linterior designer Gillian Segalwho has had the pleasure of helping to reform and decorate his vacation home in the mountains.

The most important thing for the owners was that nature was very present in the interior; It was almost like an extension of the house. Also that it was a lived space and with all the comforts for your family, consisting of 5 members plus 2 dogs. “The existing house was quite dark, heavy and formal, so our client’s top priority was to bring more light into the space and adopt a more casual aesthetic. We were working on this client’s house in the city (Vancouver) at the same time. time, so it was a lot of fun working with them on defining a unique personality and aesthetic for each home to make sure they had a distinct vibe and sense of place,” says Gillian.

The house on the mountain, built in 2007, was completely renovated in 2020. It has more than 500 square meters of surface area, 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, and the owners insisted to the interior designer that this vacation home should not look like a shelter from ski. That is, they wanted to enjoy the house both in summer and winter. “We wanted to aesthetically transform the space, but also make it functional and more familiar for her family of five.”

Another very remarkable aspect of the house is the color palette that they have built for this house. A variety of light, very soft tones that do not break with the external environment. The pieces added to the house were also key, such as natural textures, handmade pieces or the selection of items vintage. Everything in the house has a story to tell and importance has been attached to craftsmanship. “An amusing anecdote is that the rattan lamp in the master bedroom was purchased in Italy and arrived in a box over 1.5 meters, something we did not expect! It was an interesting process to get it out of the box and hang it correctly to carry out our vision,” Gillian confesses.

speaking of Main bedroom, was one of the most fun to project for the interior designer. The motives? They wrapped the entire room in wallpaper and added carpeting for extra warmth. “We are in love with this space. As soon as you walk in you feel like you are enveloped in warmth and instantly able to relax. Every inch of this room was meticulously curated: from the wallpaper, to the custom fireplace, to the wall rug. We wanted take all the details into account and make this space feel like a sanctuary.”
