A hotel catches fire in Durbuy: a dog is dead and 120 people evacuated

A fire broke out Friday evening in a hotel complex, rue Mont-des-Pins in Bomal-sur-Ourthe. It was shortly following 8 p.m. when the firefighters of the Hemeco, Luxembourg and Erezée rescue zones were called. The fire had taken hold in a third-floor bedroom, filling the hallways with thick, acrid smoke.

120 occupants were evacuated to an annex of the hotel, while firefighters intervened to extinguish the fire and check that there was no longer anyone stuck in the wing of the building. No one was injured but an employee was sent by ambulance to Hamoir for prevention. Unfortunately, a dog that was in the burning room might not be saved.

The clients have been relocated to vacant rooms in the hotel. The third floor was damaged by smoke and the room in question was completely destroyed. The local mayor Philippe Bontemps descended on the spot.
