The police examined the suspect for explosives, by means of a robot, when he was injured on the road
Dutch police have ended a hostage-taking at an Apple store in the busy Leidseplein district of Amsterdam.
Police said they managed to hit the suspect with a car as he was trying to flee the scene.
Immediately before the arrest, while the accused was lying on the ground due to his injury, the police used a robot to examine him well and make sure that he had no explosives.
And the matter evolved from an armed robbery of the store, to a hostage-taking, which lasted for several hours.
All the hostages were freed, and no injuries were reported.
Police were initially called to deal with an armed robbery on Tuesday followingnoon.
And the Dutch media published many photos, and videos, related to the topic.
The police called on people in the area to stop sharing photos or live broadcasts on social media, in order to preserve the safety of those inside the buildings.
Images circulating in the Dutch media appeared to show a man brandishing a firearm in one hand while holding a person with his other arm.
Specialized and armed officers have arrived at the scene
The AT5 news channel said that nearby witnesses reported hearing gunshots at the start of the incident, but the police did not confirm this.
Dozens of police officers cordoned off the square and asked people to avoid the area.
During a press conference, the police said the attacker was a 27-year-old man from the city, and the Dutch website (NSO) said he demanded a large amount of digital money.
Leidseplein is a popular square off the ring of canals in the center of Amsterdam, not far from the famous Rijksmuseum art gallery.
Said Apple Store is the company’s flagship store in the city and, like similar stores in other major cities, occupies a prominent position, in this case, in the early 1900s Hirsch Building on the south corner of the square.
