The picture of the Euro 2024 quarter-finals was closed tonight (Tuesday), when Turkey beat Austria 1:2 at the end of a dramatic and fascinating game, and qualified for the next stage where they will meet the Netherlands, who earlier beat Romania with an impressive 0:3.

The game opened in an amazing way for the Turks, when already in the second minute Merih Demiral pushed a ball from close range into the net of Patrick Pentz after a mix-up in the box, caused by a corner kick. The rest of the half was controlled by the Austrians who tried to get back into the game, with Christoph Baumgartner and Philipp Lienhart almost equalizing.

The second half opened with enormous Austrian pressure, with Marko Arnautovic and Aumgartner continuing the eagles’ show of misses. In football, those who do not score absorb, in the 60th minute, a corner kick from the Turks reached the head of Demiral who powerfully hit in and completed a tremendous double on the way to 0:2 for Vincenzo Montella’s apprentices.

In the 95th minute, just moments before the final whistle, Baumgartner reached the lift and hit a great shot, but he squeezed out a simply amazing save from Mert Gunuk, the Turkish goalkeeper, who headed to the corner and effectively sealed the game’s result. A wonderful 1:2 victory and many situations for Turkey over Austria on the way to the quarter-finals.
