A Highland Song tells the story of Moira McKinnon, who has never seen the sea. For fifteen years, she lived with her mother in a small house on the edge of the Scottish Highlands. One day, she receives a letter from her uncle Hamish urging her to come to the coast. If she manages to reach her lighthouse for the solstice, a wonderful surprise will await her…
And that’s how Moira got away.
As a reminder, the inkle studio was already at the origin of 80 Days, Heaven’s Vault and the surprise success of last year Overboard ! A Highland Song is in development for PC and Switch.
In the Highlands, every peak has a story to tell and every valley resounds with song. Giants sleep, ghosts sing, crows carry messages and eagles raise the dead.
But the cliffs of the Highlands are unforgiving and their peaks are cold. Moira’s journey won’t be easy. Explore hills criss-crossed by roads – some well traveled, some hidden away – that are filled with stories, lost objects, echoes and memories.
Climb on peaks to orient yourself and plan your next steps. Then jump, slide and leap through the valleys to the beat of the music. And be prepared to make the trip more than once, because one trip is far from enough to uncover the deepest secrets of the Highlands.
This 2.5D adventure brings the Scottish Highlands to life through a mix of hand-drawn animations, impressionistic painted backdrops and dynamic light and weather effects.
The music is provided by the composer Laurence Chapman alongside two giants of the Scottish folk scene, Talisk and Fourth Moon, several times awarded. These two groups combine virtuoso instrumental playing with fast and inventive rhythms, to produce new tunes in traditional styles played with beauty, energy and audacity.
