For parents, there is no worse news than the illness of their offspring. Alina and Aaron Edwards, parents of ten-year-old baby Emma, learned in April 2022 that their child had one of the most common cancers in young people, blood cancer, in other words leukaemia.
Despite the family’s pugnacity in overcoming a cancer which remains one of those which leaves the most hope of recovery to young patients, the parents ended up receiving terrible news. “We were about to try a new treatment when the doctors told us that our daughter only had a few days left to live”told the mother to a local media and whose elements were reported by the New York Post.
Suffering from leukemia, she married at the age of ten
Before continuing: “We expected anything but to hear such a thing. We thought that by changing the protocol, there would finally be an evolution. Never, ever, do we imagine that the doctors could one day tell us that it’s over “. It was time to realize the dearest dream of the little girl.
Indeed, when some children are nervous about visiting Disneyland, Emma has always dreamed of his wedding day. “We had to do it very quickly, everything was organized in less than two days thanks to donations from our relatives. It was a wonderful ceremony. Her dad walked her down the aisle, a friend read a Bible verse, and her best friend was a bridesmaid”explained the mother of the family.
A lovely son-in-law
The lucky winner: DJ, a schoolmate of the bride. “DJ is the cutest kid I’ve ever met. He really has a heart of gold.”said the mom about her son-in-law.
Alina also returned to this terrible moment when they discovered thatEmma was sick. “She had never been seriously ill before. One day, she suddenly started vomiting before collapsing. The doctors examined his legs and found the cancer was already eating away at his bones”she said.

Quickly, the family received the community support of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The drivers of a famous race in the region even sported stickers bearing the image of the little girl on their cars in order to raise funds for the Edwards.
Eventually, 12 days after having said “yes” to DJ, Emma breathed her last. “She was a wonderful child. We really wanted her wedding to be a party because that’s what she always dreamed of.”concluded the mother.
