An explosion occurred this Monday morning around 10:20 a.m. on a construction site in a house located rue St-Séverin in Liège. The building is being demolished.

The workers discovered grenades dating from the Second World War. One of them exploded. “The exact cause has yet to be determined”, indicates the police of Liège who went to the scene. “The building was obviously not damaged.”

Alerted, the firefighters of Liège intervened on the spot to establish a security perimeter. A worker was seriously injured in the explosion, who was rushed to a Liège hospital. His life is not in danger.

As a precaution, neighboring houses were evacuated. The army demining service is on site.

A stability study will have to be carried out for these buildings. Rue St-Séverin is currently inaccessible from avenue de Fontainebleau and from rue Mississipi. A deviation is established.
