A great or embarrassing first?

“The important thing is the rose,” sang Gilbert Bécaud, his hand on his ear. And kisses were particularly discussed during the premiere of “The Golden Bachelor” on M6. Landry, a seductive 60-year-old bachelor, met twenty suitors there. A rendezvous that has not yet found its audience (the Six was only sixth in the ratings on Wednesday evening, with 978,000 viewers), but which is already full of great television moments. Brilliant or embarrassing? That is the question…

Embarrassing: the parade of suitors

It’s past 9:15 p.m., the kids are in bed, and it’s time to get a little refresher – and yes, the first Bachelors were over fifteen years ago – with the first version of the program. And as is the tradition of this program hosted this year by Stéphane Rotenberg, it begins with the parade of contenders.

Aged 55 to 67, they finally discover the handsome Bachelor, Landry. “He looks like Pierce Brosnan,” one of them says. Raquel, a 60-year-old Spaniard, is the first to start the ball rolling for the suitors. Then comes Claudine’s turn and her magic trick, Cathy on a motorbike or Catherine who appears on horseback… Cute moments perhaps, awkward ones surely with Carméla, 67, who sang Mon mec à moi by Patricia Kaas (clever, we have it in our heads!), before indulging in a dance around a Landry who is far from insensitive. Note the funny exchange of Christine, who hands a letter to the Bachelor. “Can you read it to me? I didn’t bring my glasses,” he apologizes. Christine replies that she didn’t either. Laughs.

Nearly forty minutes to discover twenty portraits of candidates who all have stars in their eyes. We have known a faster start, especially when it comes to love.

Brilliant: Landry’s flawless elegance

From the couch, we quickly find ourselves seduced by Landry’s elegance and phrasing. What a man! Giving his jacket to one of the suitors during an outdoor exchange, while the latter admits that it is “not very warm”, he multiplies the gallant asides, distributes glasses of champagne and even indulges in a few dance steps with his sweethearts. Seeing a troubled suitor, he does not hesitate to take her hand and chat with her. A model with a tender heart (“she touched me”, “I found it beautiful”, “it moved me” …), who will very quickly succumb to temptation.

Awesome: Mariella’s crush

“Marry him!” That would make a good subtitle for the M6 program, “Golden Bachelor.” And why with… Mariella? A yoga session is at the origin of one of the two kisses in this first episode. At this very precise moment, the chemistry is palpable between the sixty-year-old and Landry. The Bachelor then decides to isolate himself with her, far from the eyes of the other candidates, and in particular that of Carole, jealous of this proximity. The one-on-one between Landry and Mariella ends with a most intense kiss. Love is beautiful!

Embarrassing: The Rose Handovers

The important thing was the rose for Gilbert Bécaud. For comedian Thierry Le Luron, the rose was “the pain in the ass”. Enough with eighties references, the rose test has a slightly embarrassing side, in 2024. From twenty, the contenders go to fifteen, then to twelve. So, flower in hand, Landry presents himself in front of them. The one who will obtain the rose from the attractive Bachelor continues the adventure, you know the recipe.

Valérie, with whom Landry quickly exchanged a kiss, and Raquel already have a flower in their possession, obtained during a date. Carole, Sylvia or even Béatrice, descendant of Joan of Arc’s brother, will be part of the adventure next week. Between each rose presentation, confidences and worries from the candidates for love, in front of the camera. It’s repetitive, but that’s the mechanics. They all accept Landry’s rose, no tears or screams for those who weren’t selected. Note that episode 1 ends with unbearable suspense: who will be the 12th woman to obtain the precious red flower?

Awesome and Embarrassing: Sylvia’s Emotion

Many contenders wanted to stand out. One of them made her mark on the first episode of this “Golden Bachelor” on M6: Sylvia. Visibly attracted to the handsome Landry, the 57-year-old woman does not want to let the “man of her life” pass her by. So, during a group dance in the living room of the villa, she decides to climb on the table alone and tries to attract Landry with a wild dance by pointing at him. Hot!

But beneath her enterprising airs, Sylvia is touching and full of emotion. She bursts into tears when she receives the last rose from Landry, who is far from insensitive to the personality of his red-haired suitor. Red like the rose and like our eyes, tearful at times. There is no doubt that episode 2 of “Golden Bachelor” will once again steal our hearts.
