(Los Angeles = Yonhap News) Correspondent Yoon-seop Jeong = Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s gift to his girlfriend in college and a photo he took at the time were sold for 230 million won.
PR Auction, an American auction house, announced on the 16th (local time) that Musk’s ex-girlfriend Jennifer Gwynn’s souvenirs were sold for a total of $165,265 (regarding 230 million won).
Gwynn met Musk, a senior at the University of Pennsylvania in 1994, and they dated for a year, then auctioned off items containing memories of that time.
Among the gifts Musk gave Gwynn, a 14-carat gold necklace with a green emerald sold for $51,08, and a card that Musk wrote for Gwynn’s birthday sold for $16,643.
Gwynn sold Musk’s items to pay for his stepson’s college tuition.
Their brief relationship ended when Musk moved to Silicon Valley, California.
Musk enrolled in a Ph.D. in Materials Science at Stanford University in 1995, but dropped out two days later and started his own business.
“Musk was very intense (in college) and focused on his studies,” Gwynn recalled.
He told Musk, who moved to California, that a long-distance relationship would have been a waste of time.
