A German diplomat informs the authorities of his wife’s sudden death, and the police arrest him for murder

Brazilian police said they had arrested a German diplomat on Saturday for the murder of his Belgian wife at their home in Rio de Janeiro.

Police said Uwe Herbert Hahn, a diplomat at the German consulate in Rio de Janeiro, told the authorities that his Belgian husband, Walter Henry Maximilian Beau, fell suddenly on Friday night and suffered head injuries that led to his death.

But according to the preliminary results, following examining the husband’s body and in the couple’s apartment in the upscale Ipanema neighborhood, it was found that the dead man was severely beaten.

“The version of events given by the consul that the victim fell on the ground does not correspond to the conclusions of the forensic report,” police officer Camila Lourenco said in comments posted on the social networks of the local police in Rio de Janeiro.

“Bruises were observed in several places, including on the chest, consistent with trampling, as well as wounds indicative of a cylindrical object attack.”

The local police Instagram account posted pictures of what appeared to be blood stains on the floor and furniture of the couple’s apartment.

Local media reported that Han tried to clean up the crime scene before the police arrived.

He later reported to the police that his husband had been drinking heavily and had taken sleeping pills.

The accident occurred a week before Pew’s 53rd birthday, according to a photo of his identity card, published by the Brazilian press.

The German embassy in Brasilia did not immediately respond to AFP’s requests for information.
