A gas cylinder exploded in a residential apartment on the 16th floor of a property in the Sidi Beshr Bahary area, east of Alexandria, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, injuring two people.
Major General Khaled Al-Barawi, Assistant Minister and Director of Alexandria Security, received a notification from Al-Montazah Police Station first stating that an explosion had been heard in the “Phosphorus Building” property on Khalil Hamada Street in Sidi Beshr.
The officers of the Department, Civil Protection, Ambulance, and officials of Al-Montazah District first moved to the Al-Balagh site, and the examination found that a gas cylinder exploded in an apartment on the 16th floor of the aforementioned property, and a fire broke out.
The civil protection forces, using fire engines, were able to control the fire and put out the fire before it spread to the rest of the property’s apartments.
According to eyewitnesses and an official source, the blast wave injured two people and destroyed the walls of the apartment as a result of the accident, while the fall of parts of the walls caused damage to a car that happened to be parked under the property.
The necessary report of the incident was issued at Al-Montazah Police Station first, and the Public Prosecution office launched an investigation.
