Durango, Dgo.- A tire with a higher level of wear than the rest would have been the cause of the accident that claimed the lives of two elements in the custody of licensed senator José Ramón Enríquez Herrera, which occurred on the Durango – Gómez Palacio highway.
According to the information obtained, one of the four tires that were mounted on the drive unit at the time of the mishap did not correspond to the set of four, but rather was the spare tire.
This, as was appreciated in the observation exercise carried out by the personnel of the National Guard and local corporations, was what is colloquially known as a “cock” and was no longer functional for a road trip.
Everything indicates that said tire exploded while the victims were driving the motor unit at excessive speed, which led to the overturning and subsequent death of two of its three occupants.
However, it will not be until a complete expert opinion is prepared that the definitive cause of the traffic event is formally established.
It should be remembered that the deceased are the agents of the Municipal Directorate of Public Security identified as Rogelio Rodríguez Meza and Jorge Alberto Escalante Ávila; while the injured one is Alma Yarely González Telles.
The incident occurred at kilometer 106 of the aforementioned road, at regarding 09:00 hours, when the victims were traveling to Gómez Palacio to take part in José Ramón Enríquez’s agenda.
He stated that he found out regarding the two deaths until he was already at a press conference (shortly before 11:00 a.m.); It is unknown, however, if the victims were traveling in a caravan with the former mayor of Durango or if, for some reason, there was a significant distance from them.
