A former Russian vice-president tackles Vladimir Putin: “He makes a fool of himself”

Last personality to date to have displayed his anger in the face of what he described as a “tragedy”: Alexander Rutskoy, former vice-president. The 75-year-old who supported Boris Yeltsin from 1991 to 1993 felt that the conflict in which his country is currently involved should never have been started by Vladimir Poutine. “If your armed forces are not able to carry out strategic offensive operations, it is better not to try at all, especially outside your own country,” he castigated. For Mr Rutskoi, the problem of the Russian army is not new and has its origin in his command. “For a quarter of a century, the armed forces have been led by incompetent people,” continued the former governor of Kursk.

He thus pointed to the appointments made by the head of the Kremlin, including Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. “He is not a career soldier, but a politician known for his loyalty to Putin”, detailed the former vice-president. “[…] People in key positions have never commanded or directed anything.”

“This option would seriously complicate the life of the Russians and might perhaps even allow kyiv to win the war”

For the man who was named “Hero of the Soviet Union” in 1988, the Russian president is responsible for the death of tens of thousands of Russian soldiers, whom he sacrificed “senselessly”. “Why are they dying? Who has the right to take a father away from his children? In a final attack on Vladimir Putin, the former vice president claimed he was “ridiculing himself”. “He constantly lays out his goals, but he never achieves them.”
