The disciplinary department of the Swiss National League imposed a three-game suspension on Sunday on former Montreal Canadiens prospect Magnus Nygren for a dangerous head check on an opponent.
Last Friday, the 31-year-old HC Davos defenseman delivered a hard shoulder blow to the head of Rapperswil-Jona Lakers forward Sandro Forrer during a playoff game.

“The contact was not accidental and the blow was very violent,” reads the disciplinary report, which took into consideration that Nygren apologized to his victim.
The Swede, fourth round choice of the Habs in the 2011 draft, also receives a fine of 5,400 Swiss francs, a sum which includes “procedure costs”.

Between 2013 and 2014, Nygren played 31 games spread over two campaigns with the club’s school club at the time, the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Struggling with a concussion, he returned to Sweden in January 2015 and continued his career with Färjestad BK the following year.
Nygren joined HC Davos in 2017.
