On his X account, Petro summarized a post by María Corina Machado on the neighboring country’s position during the OAS General Assembly.

“It is not a foreign government that should decide who is the president of Venezuela. It is up to the Venezuelan people to reach a political agreement to end the violence in their country and to establish a transparent way in which a vote count can be carried out with guarantees for all,” he said.

According to the only bulletin published so far by the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela, with approximately 80% of the polling stations counted, Maduro was re-elected with 51.2% of the votes, while the opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia obtained 44.2%.

However, for the opposition, more than 73% of the votes counted would confirm the victory of the Unity candidate.

In total, 21,392,464 Venezuelans were called to vote on the day, which included 15,700 polling stations and 30,026 voting tables.
