A fleet made up of 32 ships to ensure maritime links

Por the first post-covid Marhaba operation, a large fleet was formed to ensure maritime links. In total, 32 ships will be mobilized on shipping lines linking ports located in Morocco to those of countries such as Spain, France or Italy.

These ships will have a total capacity of approximately 478,000 passengers and 123,000 cars. The fleet thus formed will be able to reach this capacity by making 571 weekly trips, the ministry said in a press release, following the meeting of the Joint Moroccan-Spanish Transit Commission for Moroccans Residing Abroad (MRE), held on Thursday. The maritime lines with Spain, which represents 95% of passenger traffic, will be assigned 23 ships, including 14 intended for passengers on the main line Tanger Med – Algeciras, in addition to two ships dedicated to the transport of goods (trucks) , notes the press release.

The same source adds that these ships ensuring the crossing between the Moroccan city and the Spanish city make it possible to ensure 47 daily trips, with a capacity of approximately 40,000 passengers and 11,000 cars, an increase of 4% compared to 2019.

The reservation of tickets will also be adopted on all the maritime lines concerned by the Marhaba 2022 operation, including the two lines “Tangier Med/Algeciras” and “Tangier ville/Tarifa”, in order to stop the number of passengers and to take the necessary measures to ensure fluid traffic between the two shores, underlines the ministry.

In its press release, the Ministry of Transport and Logistics recalls that Operation Marhaba requires the coordination of the various parties, within the framework of the Moroccan-Spanish Joint Maritime Commission, the National Commission in charge of Operation Marhaba and the shipping companies. concerned.
