A flaw in macOS discovered by … Microsoft

Fortunately, Apple has deployed a security patch for a macOS vulnerability in the Office suite.

It’s no secret that Apple and Microsoft aren’t the companies that get along best in the microcosm of tech. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates have often fought over the media, and the legacy left by the two men extends this little rivalry.

But regularly, Microsoft identifies one or another security flaw on macOS and does not hesitate to alert Cupertino developers. This was still the case in mid-July, when Microsoft indicated on his site having discovered in October 2021, in collaboration with an independent developer, the vulnerability CVE-2022-26706 in Microsoft Office programs on macOS. The Redmond company sent the info to Apple, which deployed a fix on May 16, 2022.

Microsoft actually discovered this flaw in the sandboxing (which limits access to private data) of Mirosoft Office software deployed on macOS by looking for malicious macros. The flaw allows for its part to sneak out of the sandboxing and to access private and system data. Do not hesitate to update your Mac with the latest version of the OS available.
