Studio Midnight Society, founded by streamer Dr. Disrespect, has revealed the name and some details regarding their multiplayer shooter, formerly known as Project Moon. The formal name of the game is Deadrop, and the events take place in “2020.b”, where self-managed mega structures called Refiner States turn toxic atmospheric pollution into a valuable substance “space dust”.
Once state-owned structures are now occupied by opposing factions that fight for control of the towers and resources within. Presumably, the player will be part of the “Skins and Syns” faction and will fight other factions, as well as the Cleaners who control the towers.
Deadrop is described as a vertical escape shooter. In essence, a battle royale, where players climb higher and find equipment and resources, trying to survive and escape with the loot. The money raised can be used to finance the next outing. It turns out a sort of Escape From Tarkov, only in cyberpunk.
Funding for the development of Deadrop was raised by selling a $50 Founder’s Pack, which gives players access to snapshots – early builds – every 6 weeks. The first Snapshot CL 1859 is already available and those who paid to test the shooter can already try it.
Naturally, everything is at a very early stage of development, so it looks like a craft of a lone developer on Unreal Engine. Games are rarely shown or given a try in the first months of operation, and Deadrop is a good example of why. There’s nothing here to captivate or dazzle…unless you’re a streamer, of course, who might be interested in pushing this raw build for one reason or another.
