A fire reported at the printing house of the Banque de France, the place where the CFA franc is made

The printing office of the Banque de France in Chamalières, a place where banknotes including the CFA Franc were made, was hit by a fire on the morning of Wednesday, February 9. A fire now “contained”, according to the prefecture. The fire started shortly following 10 a.m. local time from a ticket design laboratory, the same source said. An initial assessment reports 24 people slightly intoxicated, including four transported to the CHU of Clermont-Ferrand. The printing house, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2021, produces more than 2.5 billion banknotes annually, including CFA Franc denominations,
