A few days before the opening of the Auto Show, where are we on delivery times?

The 100th edition of the Auto Show will open its doors to the public on January 14. But in dealerships, fair conditions have begun and will continue for at least the whole month of January.

Delivery times still reach a year for some models, but overall they are getting shorter. You should not expect to receive your car within three months, as was the case before the Covid period, but rather within 7 to 9 months on average.

Since the beginning of the covid crisis, the order books have never really been empty. It was car production that was not keeping up. In question: the shutdown of factories, then the supply of spare parts, first semiconductors, then wiring from Ukraine. Now, most manufacturers have found solutions.

Christophe Dubon, spokesman for Febiac, the Belgian Federation of the automobile and cycle industry, wants to be reassuring about these famous deadlines and advises future buyers.

“Today we see that builders are returning to lead times of 7, 8, sometimes 9 months. Afterwards, it depends on the type of finish, depending on the builders too: some have more effective solutions than others. I believe that ‘it is really important, if you want to buy a new car, when you negotiate the purchase of the vehicle, to be clear and to ask what the delivery time will be and to have it indicated black and white”he explains.

The 100th edition of the Auto Show will be held from January 14 to 22, after two years of cancellations due to the coronavirus pandemic. The sectoral federation Febiac, which organizes the event, expects 300,000 visitors.
