Awan became disabled as a result of being bitten by a fierce pitbull dog in 2008, as a result of which her leg was amputated due to a medical error while trying to treat her, which led to her entering into severe depression at the age of 13, which is a severe stage that she would not have overcome without the support of her family members. With their support, she was able to face her destiny and accept her fate.
The young Moroccan girl stormed the sport of tennis on wheelchairs by chance in a camp in Belgium, when international coaches expressed their fascination with her high techniques in playing and the development of her level in a short time, to decide upon her return to Morocco to become a professional in the game, and she engaged in intensive training, which enabled her to win the title of Moroccan champion a year 2017, a champion for Africa twice and a champion for Arabs in the young women’s category. She also participated in international and continental championships, during which she reached the final rounds, which made her climb the ranking of the International Wheelchair Tennis Federation from 184th place in the world to 36th place in 2018, and she is currently seeking to reach the top five positions. globally, to enhance its chances of attending major international forums.
Najwa’s success was not limited to the sports field only, but also to her academic path. The tennis champion holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics, and a Master’s degree in Engineering and Technology for Education and Training.
