Three years ago, his wife Annie was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer.
Doctors have ruled that she has few months left to live and that she may not make it until winter.
However, François Bertrand will not be able to be with his family during these difficult days, a situation he deplores.
He considers that the only government program of financial assistance to allow the work stoppage of the father of the family is not sufficient.

Mr. Bertrand, who has two children and a mortgage to pay, cannot afford 15 weeks off work with 55% of his salary as offered by the federal government.
“I’m lost… He needs help from the government, there’s nothing for a situation like this. It’s hard. I am sure that there are many Quebecers or Canadians who are going through the same thing as me”, denounces with emotion the father of the family.
In 2020, more than 56,000 Quebecers were diagnosed with cancer.
A spokesperson for the Department of Employment says in an email that “the Government of Canada has made incremental changes to the Employment Insurance system since 2015. “The government remains committed to modernizing the employment insurance system. We will continue to ensure that employment insurance benefits are fairer and better adapted to the needs of Canadians and to the evolution of the workforce.
