Al-Marsad newspaper: Russia received a major blow as a result of the modest way in which the Russian army dealt with its communications network in Ukraine, following the latter announced, during the weeks following the Russian invasion, that Russian communications had been intercepted from the battlefield.
A report published by the “National Public Radio” website in the United States sheds light on the way in which the Ukrainians were able to confront the Russians in the field of communications.
The report added that many Russian soldiers brought their mobile phones to Ukraine, and when the Ukrainians discovered this, they cut off Russian phone numbers from the Ukrainian network, so the Russian phones stopped working.
Russian forces then began seizing mobile phones from Ukrainian civilians, according to Ukraine’s Special Communications and Information Protection Authority.
Information security expert Dmitry Alperovich says this has prompted the Ukrainians to use phones seized by the Russians from Ukrainian citizens as listening devices to intercept Russian communications.
“The intercepted phone calls are invaluable as they enable the Ukrainians to learn what the Russians are thinking, and their morale,” Alperovich said.
