Former Chairman of the Seimas, deputy of the 5th and 6th Seimas Alfred Cepanis has died at the age of 80, parliament reported.
The X-account of the Seimas expresses condolences to the relatives, friends and parliamentary colleagues of the deceased holder of the Order of the Three Stars of the Order, an outstanding politician during the restoration of Latvian independence, Alfred Čepanis.
Čepanis was the chairman of the 6th Seimas. He voted for the restoration of Latvian independence, parliament noted.
Alfred Cepanis was born in 1943 in the Kalsnava district of the Madona region.
In the 5th Seimas he was elected from the list of the Democratic Central Party, and in the 6th Seimas from the list of the Democratic Party “Saimnieks” (“Boss”).
In 2000, Cepanis was awarded the Order of Three Stars of the third degree, and he was also given the badge of the 1991 barricade participant.
