As fires ravage the island of Maui in Hawaii, a family managed to be saved thanks to an app on their phone. This is the emergency service available on the iPhone 14.
Since August 8, Fires ravage the island of Maui, Hawaii. According to the latest report from the American authorities, these impressive forest fires have 93 dead in less than a week. As reported by John Pelletier, chief of police for the island of Maui, the bodies found are difficult to identify in part because of the heat. The fire “even melted the metal,” he said, calling on relatives of missing persons to submit to a DNA test to help identify the victims.

As families rally to get by, one of them has just made headlines following managing to get by thanks to an app. On Twitter, a man has just told how his relatives were able to flee the flames by using Apple’s emergency call service, which makes it possible to contact emergencies even without being connected to a network. As BFMTV explains, the emergency contacts selected in the iPhone’s medical file can receive exchanges with the emergency services, the victim’s responses and a map indicating their position.
On the screenshot shared on Twitter, we discover the conversation between the emergency services and a person: “Five people in a white van aged between 18 and 30. Location: Territorial Savings Bank, Outlets in Maui. Please advise us […]” can we read in a message. Enough to quickly rescue the five people who were in a car. Note that this emergency service is only available on the iPhone 14.
