In addition, some disaster victims shared their surviving experiences. Huseyin Berber, a 62-year-old disaster victim, is a diabetic. At the time of the earthquake, he was on the first floor of his home. The refrigerator and cabinets next to him propped up the collapsed wall. Fortunately, there was an armchair to sit on and a rug to keep him warm. Living on the only bottle of water, drinking his own urine after drinking water, he was finally rescued after struggling under the rubble for 187 hours.

“I kept yelling and yelling and yelling and yelling and no one heard me, I shouted until my throat hurt…then someone came in and touched me hands and they pulled me out of there. I came out of a very small hole and it scared me a little bit.”

Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria caused heavy casualties, and millions of people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. Many survivors were left homeless in the freezing winter.

As the golden rescue time expires, the hope of survival for the trapped people has become less and less, and the rescue operation is running out, the focus has shifted to assisting the survivors.

As most of the health infrastructure in the disaster area was damaged or unusable by the earthquake, how to prevent people from contracting diseases is a daunting challenge for the health authorities.
